2 reasons why Memphis Depay and Spurs are a perfect fit

Our resident Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a big January transfer window to really propel them into a title challenge for the second half of the season.

Certainly, Spurs are right in the mix this year and could become stronger as the months go by now they are out of the Champions League.

Admittedly, they are still in Europe, but will likely play weakened teams in the Europa League in order to concentrate on winning the title in this country.

Their first XI is certainly as good as any out there right now but many feel it will be their lack of squad depth that let’s them down, hence the desire for more deals from their supporters by the bar for next month.

It appears that could happen, though, with Spurs linked with Memphis Depay by The Liverpool Echo and so with that in mind here’s two reasons why they’d be a perfect fit for one another according to our landlord…

Spurs need width

One real weakness to Spurs is that they lack width from the midfield.

Whilst Danny Rose and Kyle Walker try to offer that they have been pegged back at times this season and that has left Spurs looking vulnerable. They need more advanced players that can play wide and Depay is certainly one of those. He’s got plenty of tricks to beat the full back and would give Tottenham another dimension going forward.

Depay will get minutes

All Memphis Depay needs, you feel, to start realising his potential is minutes on the pitch consistently and he’s far more likely to get that at Spurs than at Manchester United.

With Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata ahead of him in the pecking order at Old Trafford it’s easy to see why he doesn’t play too often. At Spurs there’s far less competition for his spot and that could see him progress well.
