Tottenham Hotspur have a real gem on their hands in Dele Alli but they’ll face a massive test to keep hold of him in the long-term.

With the youngster attracting the attention of a host of top clubs across Europe, Spurs are in a tricky situation and their resolve will be tested this year- especially if the Lilywhites fail to secure a top-four finish.

Currently sat third and being the only side to defeat Chelsea in the Premier League since the end of September, Spurs will be high on confidence but their campaign curtailed at the back end of last season and they slipped to third on the final day against Newcastle.

In terms of Alli’s future, it seems to be a case of when and not if Dele Alli will be sold and Spurs should definitely consider cashing in this summer.

Whilst it may not be what Tottenham fans wants to hear, we’ve identified TWO very good reasons why he should be sold.

Massive profit

Signed from MK Dons for just £5m, Tottenham Hotspur secured a bargain when they landed the young Englishman and they could earn a £55m profit this month, amidst reports of interest in a £60m swoop from Real Madrid.

In the summer, that figure could rise further and Spurs could earn themselves a massive profit.

That shouldn’t be frowned at, especially as Spurs will have to balance their finances with the cost of their new stadium.

Time to find a replacement

If Spurs were to do the unthinkable and sell this month, then they’d spend the rest of the transfer window frantically searching for a replacement.

Prices would be high and the Lilywhites wouldn’t be in a good bargaining position- but it’s a different story in the summer.

At the end of the season, a £60m sale would provide a wealth of funds for Mauricio Pochettino to invest and there would be no rush for a replacement.

Spurs would have to be more careful with their money than they did when they sold Gareth Bale though.
