2010 Premiership Awards – The Nominations – Vote Now

Your don’t need a calender filled with chocolate flavoured wise men, robins and snowmen to know it’s the end of the year or as near as dammit.

The usual suspects begin to wheel out Awards Ceremonies by the Santa sackful. So to keep the seasonal analogies going, here at the Tavern we said, ‘What’s sauce for the goose…’

All you need to do is spin through the following few pages, scattering your votes like straw on a stable floor (I’d swerve the Oxen over in the corner, they’re a law unto themselves of a cold morning).

You can only vote in each category once but if you want to give any of your selections an advantage, you can always link to the specific voting page from a forum or use Twitter & Facebook. See, we just made cheating respectable.

The categories are:

Ridiculous Rumour Of The Year

This Year’s Most Hated

Entertainer Of The Year

Player Of The Year

Ridiculous Rumour Of The Year

Casting a backward glance there were 3 front runners. One was a deliberate spoof, but the other two turned up on message boards and as bizarre as they seem now, they gained viral status across the Internet.

This Year’s Most Hated!

For every character in football with a fan, there’s another with an angry mob outside his house. This year’s in Infamous 5 are a rare bunch.

Fabio Capello’s performance at the World Cup was as pompous as it was incompetent. By the time England limped out of the tournament looking like amateurs his face said it all and he looked like a spitting image puppet with a puncture.

Wayne Rooney wouldn’t have ordinarily made this type of list, but after destroying his public image with allegations of paying for sex when Coleen was preggers he then went one step further and decided to hold Man Utd hostage to improved wage demands.

Hicks & Gillett were guaranteed to appear here or in the Loathsome Yanks Category. Early in the year, they may have been favourites but since being booted out of the country they may struggle.

John Terry has to be here. Did he do the dirty with a team mates missus? Did he mastermind an insurrection in the England dressing room? Well he had the England captaincy taken away and then insisted on doing a post match interview topless, bar his Chelsea captain’s armband. He so horny subtle.

Two late entries. One from a fat bloke with delusions of grandeur and the other from er…

Sepp Blatter has to be a shoe in for this one. Allegations of being bent aren’t as nailed on as allegations of being one of the most self absorbed humans on the planet. After what seemed like a 3 hour speech where he revealed that China invented football and that life was the name of the game and he wanted to play that game in a hand made suit… he announced the next 2 world cups were being awarded to the 2 nations that had wined and dined him the best.

And so lastly we have Mike Ashley. The Geordies must wonder how in the name of Lucifer they ended up this guy as their owner. It’s almost as if he’s deliberately trying to scupper Newcastle United from within. Is it just me, or did he actually look bigger than usual on Saturday? Has anyone actually seen Chris Hughton or has Mike eaten him?

Paul The Octopus managed to achieve that which the finest footballing nations in the world and those bloody vuvuzelas could not. Now and again he almost made the World Cup vaguely interesting.

David Sullivan & David Gold ought to jack in football and be given their own TV series. The cringe-worthy pair have brought an element of comedy to football that makes Only Fools And Horses look like the testcard. If they get their wish, they may be have the most prestigious stadium …in the Championship.

Ian Holloway, Blackpool manager. His life is a TV series. To say he has been a breath of fresh air to the Premiership is a bit like saying Sir Alex Ferguson is a bit Scottish. Football needs nutters. Football needs Holloway.

Well now, when it comes to football, one man has for many years been the most noticeable, the most controversial, and occasionally the most successful blogger this country has ever produced. His pithy words and abrasive style make him as famous off the pitch as he is on it. This man is Escapini. "I love football. Football she's a cruel mistress. She's, she's more than a mistress. She's a wife, she's a mother, she's a daughter, she's an errant child. She's a… she's a… she can make you laugh, she make you cry. She can bring tears me eyes. She can bring blood to me shoulders. She can bring a kettle to the boil." "Cause football is about nothing, unless it's about something and what it is about, is football."
