Arsenal are set to make their second move of the January window in typical Arsenal style, with an unknown European youngster.
Wenger will bid for Real Madrid’s young striker Álvaro Morata, The Sunday Mirror understands. Arsenal will target the player initially on loan, while weighing up the player’s £10 million release fee.
The striker, who has been compared to fellow Spaniard Fernado Morientes, has been on fire this season for Real’s B team Castilla, who play in Spain’s Third division. He also played a prominent role in Spain’s under-19 team’s European cup victory last summer.
This would not be the first time Arsenal fans have thought ‘Who?’ when told of their newest young signing, and after being linked with the likes of Benzema, Morata may seem like a step down.
However who are we to question Wenger’s transfers? Time and time again Arsene and his scouting team have found young talents to nurture to stardom, and this is certainly no panic buy, with Wenger tracking the striker since his days at Getafe in 2008.
Still, with Van Persie, Park, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chamakh, and now Henry, it seems The Gunners are lacking in striking quality not quantity. Is Morata simply another body for the squad, or the next Arsene Starlet?
