The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their side will have a long run in the FA Cup this season. The Lilywhites look unlikely to challenge for the Premier League title in the second-half of the campaign, leaving the FA Cup as arguably their best chance at silverware.
Standing in their way in the next round is Newport County, and whilst Tottenham will head into the game as favourites, they cannot take the League Two side lightly.
Trippier has been in and out of the Spurs first team this season, with Aurier typically taking his place in bigger games. We’ll never know if the Frenchman was likely to feature in this clash, but now it looks like his English rival is going to get the nod.
It’s not a very worrying prospect for our resident Lilywhites, with Trippier more than good enough to deputize. Though the 27-year-old hasn’t been at his best this season, he’s consistent enough to do a job on the right, especially against an opponent like Newport.
Landlord’s Verdict
This is an opportunity for Trippier. Whilst he hasn’t exactly found it hard to get minutes this season, this is a chance for him to well and truly establish himself as first-choice.
A bad performance or two whilst Aurier is out could spell the end for him, whilst a couple of great displays could mean big things.
For what it’s worth, he’s a popular man amongst our resident Tottenham fans.
