27-year-old makes Everton dig despite Tottenham struggles

Speaking to Canal+ and quoted by Football365, Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko has said that his current club are bigger than Everton, a team he was linked with in the summer, causing great debate here in the Transfer Tavern.

The French international decided to sign for the Lilywhites, seemingly over the Toffees, but for Sissoko it was an easy decision to go to London instead of Merseyside from Newcastle.

His move down from the North East was one of the major themes of Deadline Day, with our punters up in arms about it.

“When I saw it on the TV or in the news that I was in Everton or that I was supposed to sign for Everton. All of that was total rubbish”, said the Les Blues international.

”They wanted me at Everton. I didn’t hear anything else. Tottenham came in next. In my head it was clear I absolutely wanted to sign for them.

”Without wishing to offend Everton, Tottenham in my opinion, are a bigger club than Everton. So for me it was better to go here. And I didn’t think more about it. I signed.”

Sissoko has been in and out of the Spurs team so far this season in competing with the likes of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama for a midfield starting berth, and our resident Toffees fans here by the bar have taken exception to his recent words.

After some dreadful form for the Magpies last season, the former Toulouse man has an awful lot to prove, despite some good games for France at Euro 2016.
