Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to get impatient with the club’s lack of transfer activity now the summer transfer window is officially open.
Our regulars have watched their Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United both spend more than £70m already this summer and are starting to get anxious. Despite Mauricio Pochettino penning a new contract at White Hart Lane, there has been no movement on the transfer front. The majority of the transfer news has concerned outgoings.
Toby Alderweireld could be set to depart with Manchester United interested in the Belgian defender who will be available for just £25m next summer. His Belgian team-mate, Mousa Dembele, is also on the verge of an exit with AC and Inter Milan interested in his services. Dembele has been a mainstay in the Spurs midfield during Pochettino’s reign and must be replaced.
The ideal replacement could be Milan midfielder – Franck Kessie. Valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, the Ivorian dynamo joined the club on a two-year loan deal after impressing for Atalanta in the Serie A. He has developed into a key player, starting all but one game in the league, scoring five goals and notching four assists.
His move to Milan will become permanent next summer, but Kessie has previously stated his desire to play in the Premier League. However, the club have struggled immensely and missed out on Champions League football. Tottenham could offer him the opportunity to play in Europe’s elite competition.
Kessie is a like-for-like replacement for Dembele. He is freakishly strong but also quick which makes him a nightmare to deal with. He is solid on the ball and defensively sound. Pochettino has a history of developing youngsters; the 21-year-old could be the next big thing under his guidance.
