29-year-old forward reportedly keen on Arsenal move, could be available next summer

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern want to see a full scale rebuild at the Emirates next summer…

It’s looking to be a season of evolution for the Gunners, with the prospect of losing a number of big names on the horizon and amidst decreasing competitiveness in the Premier League.

It’s clear that Arsenal aren’t where they should be right now, and that’s got to change, but Arsene Wenger’s mission to turn the club around will not be a short process. Rather, it’s a task that will be undertaken over the next 18 months or so, with the Frenchman needing a couple of transfer windows to really improve things.

The main thing that he needs is new players. There are a number of big names at the Emirates, but Wenger needs more – and could 29-year-old Karim Benzema be a good option?

Well, from the player’s point of view, it appears clear that he would be open to the move – with Don Balon reporting that he likes the prospect of moving to Arsenal. What’s more, Real Madrid are said to be considering a future move for a couple of Europe’s most talented forwards, and so Benzema could become surplus to requirements as a result.

Whilst there is no direct mention of direct Arsenal interest, Benzema is not the sort of player that you can turn your nose up at. Indeed, he is one of Europe’s best attackers – even if he has found it hard over the last year or so.

Still, any move will be difficult to come by, but it’s interesting to note that players are still seemingly keen on Arsenal as a destination.

Landlord’s Verdict

Real Madrid could be open to selling Benzema. He’s no spring chicken, whilst his goals have dried up in recent months too.

He’d be a decent addition at the Emirates, with his experience and star power likely to breathe new life into the Arsenal fan base, but it remains to be seen just how much of a viable option he will be.
