The West Ham fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern want to forget the fact that these three players donned the claret and blue.
West Ham are loving life at the London Stadium, but before their move to Stratford – Upton Park played host to many a West Ham legend.
Key names like Paolo Di Canio will forever live in West Ham folklore, whilst Mark Noble is continuing to carve his name into the West Ham history books.
But what of the flip side of the scale? What about the players that failed to cement their legacy at West Ham – and what of the players that simply flopped for the Hammers?
Some of the more dedicated West Ham fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern spent this afternoon compiling a list of some of the less well-known flops to grace the turf at Upton Park – some of which even our landlord couldn’t remember!
With that said, here are THREE dismal flops only die-hard West Ham fans will remember…
Titi Camara
Titi Camara was signed by Harry Redknapp in 2000, joining from Liverpool.
During his spell with the Hammers he would make just 14 appearances in all competitions; a far cry from what was expected amongst the West Ham faithful here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
He would then go on a number of loans before having his contract mutually terminated following West Ham’s relegation in 2003.
A disappointing spell all round.
Mauricio Taricco
There was tangible excitement around the Tavern upon the signing of Mauricio Taricco – but his spell at West Ham was a unanimous disappointment according the West Ham Faithful.
Taricco joined West Ham for free after leaving Tottenham, and much was expected of his tenure for the club.
However, 27 minutes into his debut he went down injured, suffering a hamstring tear just two days after signing for the club.
And with that, his West Ham career was over. He ended his contract soon after, and retired from professional football thereafter.
Youssef Sofiane
Youssef Sofiane’s West Ham career was over before it had even started.
He joined on a free transfer in 2002, brought in as a means of adding squad depth to the West Ham attacking line.
Despite his low cost, the West Ham fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern remember feeling optimistic about the deal, with many feeling that he could do a job for the club.
However, he went on to make just one league appearance for the club – disappointing everyone here in the Tavern.
He has now faded into the memory books – never to be mentioned at West Ham again.
