Here in the Transfer Tavern, West Ham United fans are feeling somewhat worried after their first few Premier League games.

The Hammers have had a tricky start to the new Premier League campaign and have lost to both Chelsea, Manchester City and Watford.

They’ve picked up a win against Bournemouth in-between that and hopes remain strong with plenty of time remaining in the season ahead.

But with hopes high, we want to go back in time and look at some of the Hammers that might not have made it along the way.

There are plenty of youngsters coming through the ranks these days and there are plenty of examples of individuals that have messed up their professional careers one way or another.

Banana-skin injuries, a slack attitude to training or completely hopeless? Trust us, West Ham have seen them.

So with that in mind, Transfer Tavern author Hayden Atkins takes us through the THREE over-hyped West Ham players that never made it…

Zavon Hines

Whilst his name might reminded you of a popular brand of baked beans, we reckon Zavon Hines might be one of the most over-rated youngsters to have ever been offered a pro deal with the Hammers.

If you’re ever feeling down then try not to imagine Hines playing over 20 times for the Hammers because it actually happened.

He even scored twice, once a winner in the last minute against Aston Villa in the 2009-2010 season.

Most recently, he’s been with Dagenham & Redbridge but after their relegation to the National League at the end of last season, he’s yet to be picked up by another club. Oh dear.

Mido

Egyptian international Mido was once branded as one of the highest rated strikers in the game after dispatching 22 times in two seasons for Ajax back between 2000 and 2002.

A loan spell brought him to West Ham in the 2009/2010 season and he arrived with a point to prove after a poor couple of spells with Zamalek and Wigan, but things were pretty shocking from the off.

He was paid just £1000 per-week by owner David Sullivan, played nine times, had a penalty saved and left.

For someone once dubbed as one of the most exciting Egyptian youngsters ever, he must go down as one of the most over-rated West Ham players ever.

He didn’t make it after leaving Upton Park either, just if you were wondering. He played ten times in just five years and retired after featuring just once for Barnsley in the 2012/2013 season.

Julien Faubert

You’ve got to feel a little sorry for Julien Faubert.

His move to the Hammers was ruined just two weeks later when he suffered a ruptured achilles tendon.

It took six months to heal and he featured only eight times that season.

A loan move to Real Madrid in-between his time at West Ham saw him mocked all over the world, after he missed training when he mistakenly thought he had the day off and when he was pictured asleep on the bench.

But he returned to the West Ham team and played well for a season, before falling out of favour quickly after.

After time in Turkey, France and Scotland he’s now not contracted at any professional side. Ouch.
