The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are having a tough time of it at the moment…
It has been a very poor season so far for the club, make no mistake about it.
Despite expectations being very high at the start of the campaign, Ronald Koeman’s side have really struggled to keep up with their Premier League rivals, and at present they find themselves close to the bottom of the table.
Clearly, something needs to change at Goodison Park. Something isn’t right at the club, and if this continues for much longer, the side could become embroiled in a relegation scrap.
Ronald Koeman, then, could be one of the first major casualties of the season. His job is certainly on the line, and for some of the fans in the Transfer Tavern, another loss could seal his fate.
However, this is something that our landlord doesn’t agree with. To the contrary, he thinks that the Everton brass should give Koeman much longer to turn his team around, and he thinks that sacking him would be a massive mistake.
Here are THREE reasons why…
Needs More Time
It’s felt like a long season so far, but it has been just seven games. That’s not nearly enough time to determine how this season is going to pan out for Everton. Chelsea were struggling around this time last year, and look how that turned out for the Blues.
Not to mention the fact Everton brought in so many players over the summer. Whilst this will obviously help Koeman in the long-run, it’s hard to put together a squad made up of so many new players in such a short period of time. Most of these players are unlikely to really make their mark until next season, and that should certainly be considered.
You can’t judge his work on what he has done so far.
Blame The Players
It can’t all fall upon Koeman’s shoulders. To the contrary, the players need to take at least some of the blame.
Though highly paid and clearly very talented, a number of players have really been poor. The likes of Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez have both really struggled this term, and that can’t go down as being all Ronald Koeman’s fault.
The Dutch manager can only do so much. Sometimes it’s up to the players to shoulder the blame and admit their failings.
Lack Of Alternatives
Who would Everton really go for, were they to sack Koeman?
They could go for Frank De Boer, who has already proven that he isn’t cut out for the Premier League, or they could go back a few years and bring in David Moyes, but even he has struggled in recent seasons.
Realistically, there’s nobody that can guarantee success at Goodison Park, and that would make his sacking a waste of time.
Koeman has proven during his tenure that he can impress, and he proved at Southampton how good he truly is. He just needs more time to make his mark on a hastily assembled team.
