With Pochettino recently coming out and citing similar comparisons, the future is looking very bright for young Marcus Edwards.

The immediate comparison that can be drawn between Messi and Edwards is simply their play style.

Messi has become renowned for his pacey, quick footed dribbling style, with the Argentine able to move past defenders in an instant – and Marcus Edwards is definitely of that ilk.

Both Edwards and Messi are deadly in front of goal, and are able to either score themselves – or deliver the ball to a team mate.

At their roots, both Messi and Edwards use the football the same way – and it is that ability that has gotten Messi to the level that he’s at right now.  And it is that ability that can fire Edwards to the Tottenham first team.

Circumstance

Another huge comparison that can be drawn between both Messi and Edwards is the circumstances in which they broke through their respective developmental systems.

Messi began to make his way into the Barcelona first team aged 17 – the exact age that Edwards is now.

He had heavy demands placed upon his shoulders to take Barcelona to the next level; and that is exactly where Edwards could find himself down the road.

Edwards, certainly, is not expecting such a quick route to the first team, but early exposure to football at the highest level could do wonders for the Englishman.

He is gaining the plaudits of everyone in the Tavern despite his tender years, as Messi did all those years ago – and that definitely stands for something.

A huge one. This is something that Edwards would likely only be able to get at one other club – Barcelona.
