35-year-old makes Man United vow despite uncertain future

Though Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the man most celebrated amongst the resident Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern following his EFL Cup final heroics against Southampton, there’s another star who had an impact.

Michael Carrick’s introduction at the interval during last Sunday’s showpiece gave the Red Devils a platform to build upon, allowing Ander Herrera freedom to roam from the engine room and provide the superstar Swede with a last-gasp assist.

In truth, the 35-year-old has improved United all season, with world record signing Paul Pogba looking a different beast when paired next to the former England international. So, the Red Devils in the bar were delighted to hear he’d be given a testimonial at Old Trafford as a result of his stoic service for over a decade.

Talking to ESPNthe ex-Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United ace has also suggested he would find it difficult to play for another side on these shores, even if he’s not handed a new deal.

“I have had so many good times here that I couldn’t play anywhere else in England,” he said.

“I must admit I would find it difficult to play anyone else in this country after playing here. I don’t think I could do that.”
