Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern are quick to point out they’re still unbeaten this season, despite a slow start to their current campaign!
And it’s true, despite the win and two draws that have opened Tottenham’s Premier League campaign, Mauricio Pochettino’s men haven’t set the world on fire at all and they’ve felt slightly labored in all of their opening three games.
A 1-1 draw with Everton was followed up by a win over Crystal Palace, before they drew 1-1 again with Liverpool at White Hart Lane.
But next up for Spurs is Stoke City who have really struggled to get firing this season.
The Potters have only one point to their name after their opening three games and they’ll be desperate to get a win on the board against a Spurs team who might be there for the taking.
But who should Pochettino go with against Mark Hughes’ Stoke City?
Here’s our landlord’s Spurs line-up that he thinks will beat Stoke this weekend…..
GK – Michel Vorm
With Hugo Lloris still injured, we expect Michel Vorm to stay between the sticks for the game against Stoke City.
He hasn’t done an awful lot wrong during his time deputising. In fact, one Tottenham fan propped up against the bar thinks that Lloris might have a fight on his hands to get back into the Tottenham first team.
RB – Kyle Walker
Walker, who has been on international duty with England this week, is almost always a sure-fire pick in the right-back berth these days.
He offers Spurs a huge amount of pace on the right-hand side. and he’ll be a big part of this team again this season.
Will cause Stoke full-backs big problems if he’s given the license to go forward.
CB: Toby Alderweireld
The Belgian defender has been a mainstay in the Spurs team so far this season, with Spurs conceding just two goals in their opening three games.
Always consistent at the back, rarely missing games – Toby Alderweireld is a sure-fire starter on Saturday.
The Tottenham fans here in the Tavern love him.
CB: Jan Vertonghen
Jan Vertongen has a solid understanding with fellow Belgian international Toby Alderweireld and the pair look a good combo as Spurs look to shut the goals out.
Now in his fifth season in England, he knows what to expect if his side are to challenge for the title in the Premier League.
LB: Ben Davies
With Danny Rose injured for the game this weekend, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino looks set to give former Swansea City man Ben Davies the chance to impress.
He’s found first-team opportunities difficult to come by over the past few months but he looks set to be given the nod after Rose picked up a knock whilst on international duty with England.
Davies made 17 top-flight appearances last term and will hope to impress the Spurs management in the game at the Britannia.
CDM: Eric Dier
Another one of Spurs’ emerging England stars, Eric Dier is a really stable option at the heart of the Spurs midfield.
His job is often unglamorous but much like N’Golo Kante at Chelsea or Idrissa Gueye at Everton, he’s there to clean up and support the defence.
He has a good range of passing and can certainly assist going forward as well as marshaling the back four.
CDM: Victor Wanyama
An early summer signing from Southampton, Victor Wanyama has taken little time to settle in the Spurs side and show his worth.
The Kenyan international brings huge amounts of power to the middle of the park and alongside Eric Dier he’s managed to keep Spurs pretty solid so far this season.
Will be looking to cut out the threat of Bojan and Wilfried Bony against Stoke, which will prove to be a stern test.
RW: Erik Lamela
Erik Lamela has enjoyed a good start to the campaign and many Spurs fans are tipping him to have his strongest season yet.
Lamela scored the equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool last weekend and will hope to add to his goal tally as the season progresses.
Has plenty of skill and flair and has really proved himself since struggling to make an impression in his first season.
CAM: Dele Alli
Fairly obvious selection in behind the striker, Dele Alli had an unbelievable campaign last season and he has a lot to prove this time out.
Looked extremely bright after coming on for England against Slovakia and created plenty of space as England got a last-minute winner. be looking to prove he’s not a one-season wonder so our landlord feels that the stakes are high.

LW: Christian Eriksen
Christian Eriksen has turned into one of the most consistent players in this Spurs side and offers so much creativity out on the right-hand flank.
Skill, trickery and endeavor are all a massive part of Eriksen’s game, not to mention his lethal ability from set-pieces.
A quality individual and his form could very much dictate how well Pochettino’s team do this campaign.
ST: Vincent Janssen
A big call but so far this season, Harry Kane really hasn’t gotten firing. Much like last season, he’s started extremely slowly and his performance in the England game didn’t help much either.
He looked slow, sluggish and if we’re being a little honest, completely off the pace against Slovakia.
Vincent Janssen won’t have joined White Hart Lane to make up the numbers and if there was ever the right chance to give him a start, then this is it.
