Tottenham did not have the best of times against Juventus on Tuesday, eventually falling to a 2-1 defeat against the Italian champions.

Despite the result however, there were a number of positives to take away from the game and to utilise going forward.

After all, it was the sides first competitive pre-season game; it was essentially a training exercise.

We expect a much more developed and quality Spurs performance this Friday, when the side faced Atletico Madrid.

Our landlord has been speaking to the Spurs fans here in the Transfer Tavern, and thinks this line-up will certainly give the La Liga side a run for their money on Friday.

GK: Michel Vorm

An obvious one; despite the defeat Michel Vorm looked comfortable in goal.

Hugo Lloris is still away, so Vorm will be getting the majority of game time as he looks to impress his manager, in hope of getting a chance next season.

LB: William Miller

Whilst he is typically an attacking midfielder, Will Miller was utilised as a left back on Tuesday given the lack of defensive depth currently with the side in pre-season.

The former child star (he played Oliver Twist for the BBC) looked good, despite playing out of position, and he will likely continue in the role whilst Pochettino waits for his stars to return.

CB: Dominic Ball

Dominic Ball’s mistake in the last game did cost his side a goal; but that is precisely the reason why he needs to play on Friday.

He will no doubt look to prove that it was a one off; and if he is blown to the sidelines during the rest of pre-season his confidence will be sapped.

Expect a decent performance.

CB: Cameron Carter-Vickers

Carter-Vickers has been included on a host of top young players to watch lists; and it is easy to see why.

The Tottenham defence was shaky on Tuesday, but when on the ball he looked elegant and comfortable.

He has received a lot of hype from the Tottenham academy, so the club definitely see his talent; it will be up to him to produce on Friday.

RB: Kieran Trippier

Trippier looked a bit shaky at the back on Tuesday, but much of that can be attributed to a lack of fitness and tiredness.

He deserves another opportunity to prove himself going forward, and you wouldn’t bet against him getting back to his best.

CM: Victor Wanyama

Victor Wanyama was one of the stand-out Tottenham players against Juventus; you wouldn’t have guessed that he had only just signed for the club.

Giving Pochettino a real dilemma going forward, he looked comfortable and astute in midfield, offering the side a powerful edge that they did lack in parts last season.

He has to start and continue to prove himself

CM: Ryan Mason

Ryan Mason captained the side on Tuesday; and he looked decent in doing so.

He has recently spoken of his desire to push for a regular first team place, and performing in pre-season is the best way to do that.

Expect him to put in a good performance.

LAM: Erik Lamela

Erik Lamela was a half time substitute in the last game, and his performance proved that he was a step above everyone else in the side.

The goal that he scored represented how good he was on the day; cool, calm, collected and efficient.

A go from the start, maybe with an extended period on the field, will push him to the next level.

CAM: Marcus Edwards

The young attacking midfielder looked excellent in 30 minute display against Juventus, and should be given a chance from the start on Friday.

He looked pacey and exciting, giving a team that looked sapped of energy a real boost.

RAM: Tom Carroll

In a Tottenham side that looked lazy and disappointing against Juventus; Tom Carroll looked really good.

He was a rare bright spark, looking composed and energetic on the ball and always posing a threat.

With the young midfielder facing a make-or-break campaign ahead of him; he must perform on Friday.

If he can produce a similar level of performance; Pochettino will NOT be able to ignore him going forward

FWD: Vincent Janssen

The game against Juventus was definitely not one of his best; with the striker failing to manage even a single shot.

Even so, much of his performances can be attributed to a lack of pre-season form and adjusting to his new club; and so going forward things will be different.

With Harry Kane set to return within the next few days, this may be Janssen’s last chance to impress as the only striker on tour.
