The Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been disappointed by their start to the season…

After a stellar campaign last term, the Lilywhites continued in a very similar vein at the start of this season – but things have come crashing down over the last few weeks.

A dip was always going to come, and after struggling to a few mixed results in October – now is the time for Mauricio Pochettino to kick on and ensure that his team gets back in form.

It may only be November, but Tottenham must be looking ahead to the rest of the season and our landlord thinks that campaigns are often won and lost in January.

The transfer window will reopen at the start of 2017 – and Tottenham must look to invest heavily.

With Harry Kane leading the line and Vertonghen and Alderweireld manning the defence, Tottenham are looking good at both ends of the pitch – and so the midfield is, naturally, the area that Pochettino should prioritise come January.

With that said, here are 4 midfielders who realistically could join Tottenham in January…

 Lorenzo Insigne

Lorenzo Insigne is an exciting attacking midfielder that looks likely to attract the interest of a host of Premier League clubs in the new year.

A technically gifted, quick attacker – Insigne is best utilised as part of a 3-man attacking midfield – and is able to play across the trio.

He offers both goals and assists, as proven by the 4 assists that he has already provided so far this season.

 Oscar

Oscar has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea – and could offer a surprise option for Pochettino in January.

He is already familiar with Spurs, and his style of play would undoubtedly suit the Tottenham play style.

The Brazilian is defensively sound and is a hard worker, whilst also maintaining the attributes of a stellar attacking midfielder.

He would add a gritty dimension to an otherwise stellar attacking line-up.

 Amadou Diawara

Tottenham have already been linked with Diawara – and a deal could certainly happen.

After rising quickly through the ranks in Italy, Diawara moved to Napoli last year – and has flourished in Serie A.

Far more deep-lying than any option mentioned so far, he would offer an alternative to the technical brilliance of both Insigne and Oscar.

They will, however, have to rival Chelsea for the move – but Pochettino appears determined to get his man.

 Isco

Isco is probably the least likely acquisition listed here – but Tottenham have continued to be linked with him in recent weeks.

It would certainly be an audacious move – but with Isco’s Real Madrid future looking uncertain; anything could happen.
