Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been getting excited over reports linking Schalke star Julian Draxler with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Metro recently reported how Arsene Wenger was preparing a £35 million bid for the young German – a player who he considers capable of emulating the likes of Robin van Persie and Thierry Henry.
Both forwards joined the club as wingers, or second strikers – the position in which Draxler plays for Schalke – before going on to become two of the world’s best strikers.
Wenger believes Draxler has what it takes to do exactly that and is targeting the 20-year-old ahead of an out and out centre forward.
However, the move now looks in doubt, following the news that Draxler is set to be out of action until March with an ankle injury.
Wenger is in the market for attacking reinforcements, with Theo Walcott recently ruled out for the remainder of the season with injury.
Now it seems the Gunners boss will be forced to turn his attention elsewhere in the hope of adding a player capable of taking some of the goal scoring burden off of Olivier Giroud.
