It’s fair to say it’s been a season of underperformance at Goodison Park this season.
Inconsistent and lacklustre displays from a squad of players that should at least have been fighting for a European place this weekend, have left the fans angry and upset.
The 3-0 defeat at Sunderland on Wednesday night was the final straw for the club’s board, who decided the time was right to axe Roberto Martinez as the club’s manager.
A decision which is totally justified as it appeared from the performances in their last ten games that Martinez had well and truly lost the dressing room at Goodison Park.
It has also prevented what would have been a very hostile environment at Goodison Park ahead and during Sunday’s final game of the season.
So the talk has now turned to who is next to take the reigns at one of England’s well known club’s.
Our landlord here in The Transfer Tavern has been looking at the odds, and has come up with FIVE excellent candidates who could replace Roberto Martinez as manager at Goodison Park……

Jose Mourinho
Could Everton persuade the born winner Mourinho to take the reigns at the club and make them great once more.
Has been linked with Manchester United since his dismissal from Chelsea, but as yet has not been contacted.
Could the added investment of Moshiri tempt the Portugese manager to take on the role.
Joachim Low
The current German international manager could be another contender for the vacant position at the club.
It’s unclear as to whether or not the stylish manager will continue with his role as head coach of the national team after EURO 2016 this summer.
During his time as the German boss he has led them to a World Cup victory and two third place finishes along with a runners medal at Euro 2008.
Ronald Koeman
The current Southampton manager could be another the club target to take over this summer.
The former Dutch international has done a great job at Southampton on a limited budget and is another, who could be tempted to take on the role at Goodison Park.
Reports suggest that he is interested in the managers position and maybe the lure of the club’s record transfer kitty being available could be the pull the club need to convince him to join the club.
Frank De Boer
Another Dutchman who is strongly linked with the job at Goodison.
His brother Ronald recently declared that he is very interested in taking the reigns at Goodison Park this summer.
Was Ajax boss until he tendered his resignation earlier this week and it will be interesting to see if he has what it takes to manage in the Premier League.
Manuel Pellegrini
The current Manchester City boss who is to be replaced by Pep Guardiola this summer is another who is being mentioned among the names to replace Martinez.
It remains to be seen if the experienced manager wants to remain in the Premier League but if he fancies a challenge the job at Goodison will definitely test his skills as a manager.
