It’s been a thrilling season for Tottenham Hotspur and, despite being pipped to second-spot in the Premier League by Arsenal, the club can look back upon what’s been a successful campaign, where they matched their targets and did more than they anticipated.
Mauricio Pochettino’s young side led a valiant push for the Premier League title, although they ended unsuccessful in that attempt, and not only did they land a spot in the top four, their finish inside the top three means they won’t have to go through a qualifying match for a Champions League group stage spot.
Tottenham’s return to Europe’s elite competition is likely to result in a wealth of transfers this summer and it’s highly likely that they will eclipse their £30m transfer record set by the signing of Erik Lamela, with a host of big names on their short-list.
The quest to sign this big names means a high price must be paid and the increased spending in the transfer market will notch the fee up a couple of figures too- and we’ve been assessing which players Spurs could splash the cash on.

Jamie Vardy
The FWA Premier League Player of the Year has enjoyed a fantastic season with champions Leicester City and his goals have been massively influential in the Foxes successful title assault, though they face a test keeping his services.
Tottenham Hotspur are just one of many sides interested in the signature of the England international and with a reported release clause of just £25m, Spurs may need to bolster their attacking ranks and could enter a bidding way for the Euro 2016 star.
Vardy could still remain at the club though, so it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.
Victor Wanyama
The Kenyan international has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur ever since former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino left to join the north London side and it seems that this summer may finally be the time he joins up with the Argentine.
Southampton will demand a high price for the player though and with rival interest in the Kenyan, including that of rivals Arsenal, a bidding war could see the price-tag of Wanyama rocket to beyond the £30m mark.
Alexandre Lacazette
Unlike the other two names mentioned first in this list, a price for Alexandre Lacazette is likely to start off at beyond the £30m mark. With over 50-goals in the past two seasons for Lyon, he’s one of the most highly-rated strikers in world football.
With Spurs desperate for a striker to support Harry Kane, Lacazette could be the perfect addition to the side. Any club interested in the Frenchman’s services will have been boosted by his exclusion from the France set-up for the European Championships, which may mean less interest in the striker.
There is also bigger names available on the market, which could see over sides divert their attention elsewhere.
Michy Batshuayi
Another striker that Spurs could move for this summer, Michy Batshuayi is another big-name target for the Lilywhites. The young Belgian has excelled with Marseille but after the French side had a disappointing campaign this term, he’s expected to be on his way out.
A host of clubs will be chasing the signature of Batshauyi but Spurs’ Champions League position could provide them with a boost, although it’s likely the young Belgian will cost in excess of £30m- and he’s another who Spurs could beat their transfer record for.
Mahmoud Dahoud
The 20-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach ace has excelled in his first season with the Bundesliga side this season and German media believe Tottenham Hotspur are readying a move for the exciting youngster.
Gladbach will not want to sell but with a reported release clause of £27.5m, Spurs may have to pay a bit more to land his signature and beat any potential rivals to the signing of the youngster. With Champions League football on the offering though, it could be an easy negotiation for the north London outfit.
