Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is eyeing a return former club Chelsea this summer as he seeks out the prospect of European football, according to the Daily Mail.
Lukaku, who was sold to Everton in 2014 following a one year loan spell at the club, has ignited transfer rumours after he announced he wants to leave the club this summer following a terrific three year spell on Merseyside.
The Belgian forward has become one of the most sought after youngsters in Europe having scored 61 times in 127 appearances for Everton, including 25 this campaign which took his total in the Premier League to 60, the fourth youngest player ever to reach that landmark.
His dazzling form has left Chelsea and Roman Abramovic kicking themselves, wondering why on earth they’ve let such a talent slip through their fingers in the first place.
At the time of his sale, fans were skeptical, but no one could predict the former Anderlecht striker would progress quite a quickly and spectacularly as he has.
Reports suggest the Blue’s would have to fork out £60 million pound to re-secure the Everton target-man’s services, however our fans at the Tavern think he is worth every penny, and here are FIVE reasons why…

Hot Property
17 goals in 35 appearances whilst on loan at West Brom; 16 in 33 during his first season as a loan player at Everton; and 45 in 94 since his permanent move to Goodison. The boy can score goals.
Lukaku is also the top scorer in any European League for a player who is 23 or under, having bagged more times than some Europe’s other young talents including Maurco Icardi and Harry Kane.
Experience in abundance
The Belgian has four solid seasons of Premier League football under his belt already, 1 with West Brom and 3 with current club Everton, meaning he would need no time to adjust to the English game.
Lukaku has also played in Europe with the Toffees, finishing the joint top scorer in the 2014/15 Europa League having scored 8 goals despite Everton crashing out in the last 16 to Dynamo Kiev.
Costa out?
Rumours are flying here in the Tavern that Chelsea’s main man Diego Costa is set for a return to Spain and his old side Atletico Madrid this summer amidst his unsettlement at the club.
While it would be a shame if the Blues were to lose their top scorer of the past two seasons, if the move does go ahead, Chelsea lack a first class striker.
Up step Lukaku, who would no longer have to fight for his place at the club as he did during his first spell.
One for the future
Securing the services of the Belgium international would be signing for both now and for the future, as at only 23-year-old, Lukaku still has the majority of his career ahead of him.
Although it seems the young forward has been around for an eternity, Lukaku could certainly be a long term choice for Chelsea.
That is younger than Didier Drogba, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Fernando Torres when they signed for Chelsea, and all went on to provide years plentiful of goals for the club. (The latter name was sarcasm, just incase you didn’t notice).
A point to prove
Lukaku’s frustration at his lack of opportunity was evident, never more so than when he refused to lift the Champions League trophy due to not feeling he contributed enough to the team’s success.
Having not being trusted to lead the line for the Blues – much to the dismay of the Chelsea fans at the time – the striker would prove his doubters wrong if he were to return to the Bridge and become their main man.
There is no questioning his affection for the club, nor the fan’s for him so a goal filled return could be oh so sweet.
