Last season was vital, with Jose Mourinho spearheading a summer of change at the Theatre of Dreams.
A couple of big names, notably Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba, were brought in, as Mourinho looked to rebuild what was a crumbling dynasty.
This season, things have gotten slightly better – performance wise at least – though they still sit far off the top of the Premier League table.
In truth, a few big changes need to happen this summer – and it might be time for Jose Mourinho gamble once more.
With that said, here are 5 transfer gambles Man United should take this summer…
Loan Out Rashford
Marcus Rashford is the golden boy of the Man Utd academy.
However, he is never going to be a regular starter at Old Trafford whilst he lacks experience, and so a loan makes sense.
It might leave Man Utd short up front, but at 19-years-old, he needs to be playing every single week.
A risk? Definitely, but a worthy one.
Hold On To Martial
Martial has struggled this year, and holding on to him might be considered a gamble when it could mean passing up a number of offers over the summer – but it is best for business.
The Frenchman is undoubtedly one of Europe’s best, and he shouldn’t’ be judged on one poor season alone.
Mourinho has often been so good at getting the best out of his players, and he should look to do the same with Martial.
Invest Again
Man Utd spent big in the summer, and it hasn’t really worked out.
However, the size of the job on Mourinho’s hands cannot be understated, and if he wants to succeed – another big spend up is needed.
It’s a risk, as Man Utd can’t afford to continue to spend so much and not win – but it will work out in the long run.
Secure Ibrahimovic Long-Term
Giving Ibrahimovic anything longer than a 2-year deal could be a risk, given that he is already 35-years-old – but Man Utd need to pay up already.
Like a fine wine, Ibrahimovic is getting better with age – and Man Utd need to ensure that he is tied down at Old Trafford for long haul.
He has been scoring freely this season, and he is only going to get better as he spends more time in the Premier League.
Sell Rooney
It’s easy to see why Rooney has been hung on to at Old Trafford for so long.
He has been the glue that has held this side together for years, and it is going to be difficult to move on from him when the time does come for him to depart.
However, simply put, Rooney isn’t good enough anymore – and that must come first. He doesn’t deserve to be playing every week, and it is time for him to move on.
A big payday before retirement beckons. It is a gamble, because he is crucial in the dressing room – but performances must come first.
