It’s set to be a massive summer ahead for Spurs and their manager Mauricio Pochettino, with the club needing to add some genuine world class players to their ranks while also keeping hold of their better players.
The Londoners have been in excellent form over the past few seasons and have come so so close to winning that elusive Premier League, but Pochettino will know full well that his team need to add some more depth and quality to their squad to really compete.
Here in the Tavern, our landlord thinks the same thing, and he believes that the club need to ensure they snap up some of the best talent available this summer to ensure they keep competing.
One player who he thinks Spurs should be looking to sign is Atletico Madrid midfield ace Saul Niguez, who has been a key factor in Los Rojos Blancos’ success over the last few years.
Niguez, who is into his fifth year with the club, is valued at £63m by Transfermarkt, but this sort of price should not put Spurs off, who know they need to spend big to maintain pressure at the top of the Premier League table.
The Spaniard is a class act, capable of filling in numerous positions across the midfield, and he would appear to be ideally suited to the Premier League and it’s style of play.
At 23, there is still plenty of time for Niguez to improve further, and he’d be an absolutely superb signing if Spurs could indeed pull it off.
