A left-field move for this star could just yield Manchester City the title

Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to seeing just who Pep Guardiola tries to sign in the final days of the window.

The men from the Etihad have had a decent start to the campaign with a win over Brighton and draw with Everton with the likes of Bernardo Silva and Danilo getting minutes so far.

For sure, then, there is a buzz about City at the moment but you feel as though they still need to sort out that centre-back problem if they are to go all the way this season.

Indeed, if Vincent Kompany gets injured the same old issues from last year come up and the club needs to address that before it’s too late.

Time, then, to get left-field and we think that Phil Jagielka of Everton might just be a proper short-term suggestion.

Whilst not the most glamourous centre-half in the world the Everton man is certainly as solid as they come and would bring a no-nonsense attitude to defending that City so sorely need.

Of course, the former Sheffield United man is decent on the ball, too, and so wouldn’t be a complete fish out of water whilst he’d also show John Stones how to make decisions at the back for the long term.
