Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern are relishing the new era at Goodison Park following the appointment of Marco Silva as the new Toffees manager last month.
The 40-year-old had been out of work since losing his job at fellow Premier League side Watford back in January, with the Hornets laying the blame firmly at the feet of Everton for their approaches for the Portuguese after their decision to sack Ronald Koeman. Nevertheless, the Merseysiders now have their man after relieving Sam Allardyce of his duties at the end of last season, this all despite leading the Toffees to an eighth place finish in the Premier League.
Regardless, there are many optimistic and expectant Evertonians in the Tavern at present, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by recent reports linking Yannick Bolasie with a move away this summer.
And while there is no doubting that the £16.2 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) has genuine ability, he has looked a shadow of that player post-injury, and as such Everton must seek to sanction his departure during the close season.
Ultimately, the 29-year-old made a fine start to life at Goodison Park following his move from Crystal Palace back in 2016, with the winger bagging once and laying on four assists in just 13 appearances prior to sustaining a knee injury against Manchester United.
And it took the DR Congo international over a year to reappear for the Toffees, and while he went on to make 16 Premier League appearances for the club last season, he managed just one goal, and failed to provide an assist.
Yes, Bolasie certainly has ability in the final third of the pitch, but he failed to light up Goodison Park in the second half of last season, and while returning from injury must be taken into account, one would have expected more from a quality player – he looks a shadow of his former self, the player that earned a £25 million move to Everton two years ago.
And with Silva likely eyeing the additions that can take Everton into top six contention, Bolasie is one man who could find his place in the starting eleven under threat, especially given that Theo Walcott on the other flank arguably performed better following his January move from Arsenal.
As such, with Fenerbahce reportedly keen on the 29-year-old’s services, Everton should seek to sanction Bolasie’s departure this summer.
