Manchester City’s hopes of retaining the Premier League title appear to be fading fast.
Pep Guardiola’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham United at the weekend, leaving them nine points behind league leaders Arsenal with only eight matches remaining.
While City still have a game in hand and another clash with the Gunners to come, overturning that deficit now looks a difficult task.
As a result, attention is gradually shifting toward the summer transfer window, when the club could both refresh their squad and potentially move on several players. One defender in particular is already attracting interest from Italy.
AC & Inter Milan Keen on Nathan Ake
According to CaughtOffside, Manchester City defender Nathan Aké has become a transfer target for both AC Milan and Inter Milan ahead of the summer window.
Sources within the agent industry suggest the two Serie A giants are seriously exploring the possibility of bringing the Dutch international to Italy as they look to strengthen their defensive options for the 2026/27 campaign.
Aké — once labelled “exceptional” by Guardiola — remains under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2027, but questions have begun to emerge about his long-term future in Manchester. His versatility has made him particularly attractive to potential suitors, as he is capable of operating both as a central defender and at left-back.
AC Milan are believed to be focusing on experienced defenders who can make an immediate impact, and Aké’s experience in both the Premier League and the Champions League makes him an appealing option.
Inter Milan are also weighing up a move, viewing the Dutchman’s adaptability as a major asset. His ability to slot into multiple roles across the back line could provide valuable depth as they continue competing for honours domestically and in Europe.
For now, there is no indication that Manchester City are actively looking to sell Aké, but strong interest from two of Italy’s biggest clubs could test their resolve in the coming months. With City potentially planning a squad refresh this summer, the defender’s future at the Etihad Stadium may become a storyline to watch closely.
