Paul Joyce has revealed that Everton are set to appeal the red card given to Allan in their 1-0 win at home to Newcastle United on Thursday night.

There was some controversy towards the end of the game at Goodison Park when the Brazilian was given a straight red card for a challenge on Allan Saint-Maximin, after the original decision to give a yellow was reviewed by VAR.

There seems to have been some confusion over where exactly the contact was made and ultimately whether it warranted a sending off.
The Latest: Appeal set
Taking to Twitter, The Times journalist Joyce has revealed that Everton will now appeal the red card given to Allan, which is set to be heard ‘today’.

If they are unsuccessful in overturning the decision, the club will launch a second appeal asking for his three-game ban to be reduced.
The Toffees face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday lunchtime, so fans will soon find out whether or not Allan will be eligible to play against the Eagles.
The Verdict: Should be overturned
Looking at the challenge, while Allan was clumsy, it seems as if a booking would have sufficed, so the decision to send him off should be overturned.
Frank Lampard certainly did not think that it was a red card, and some impartial pundits agreed with him, including former Premier League player Danny Higginbotham, who even went as far as to claim that it was a ‘ridiculous‘ decision and ‘one of the worst‘ that he has ever seen.
Nonetheless, having the 31-year-old available against the Eagles would be a huge boost for Everton, with Lampard admitted that the midfielder would be a ‘big loss‘ if his rec card isn’t rescinded.
