The Gunners fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are still hoping to sign another midfielder this summer and reports suggest that Arsene Wenger agrees.

Because according to TalkSport Arsenal and Chelsea have sent scouts to watch William Carvalho.

The 22-year old currently plays for Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon and has grabbed the attentions of the two Premier League heavy weights.

Arsenal in particular are in the market for a defensive midfielder and have highlighted the youngster as a possible candidate for the position.

Wenger’s side have been consistently linked to Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira however it now appears the Gunners are being forced to look elsewhere.

But they may face a fight from Premier League rivals Chelsea who are also keeping tabs on the midfielder.

Carvalho has a release clause of £35 million but many believe that he could leave for a fee of closer to £25 million.

The midfielder is currently enduring a ban having been sent off during Sporting’s draw against Academica.
