The Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate for him to stay…
Since his arrival in London, Olivier Giroud has remained a consistent, if unspectacular, member of Arsenal’s first-team squad.
He carried the burden as the Gunners’ only striker for the best part of a few seasons, and this year represents the first time in which the Frenchman has been dropped by choice.
After returning late from international duty after his success with France, alongside a number of niggling injuries – Giroud has had to settle for a bit-part role as of late; with Arsene Wenger revelling in the form of Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean has looked good in recent weeks as a striker, and this has lead to question marks amongst the Arsenal faithful in the Tavern over the long-term future of Giroud – but Arsene Wenger has been quick to come out and confirm where his future lies.
Wenger said: “He is an important player in our squad”.
He continued: “The squad is not 11…everybody will contribute at different parts of the season”
The Arsenal boss also left the door open for a return to the first team for Giroud, stating: “What sometimes looks permanent in October is completely revolutionised in December”.
It would appear that Giroud’s Arsenal career is far from over. Wenger seems to think that he will be back in the first team before we know it…
Whilst Giroud has rarely done anything unbelievable at Arsenal, he has been slowly trotting along as the Gunners’ first-choice striker over the last few years.
The impressive nature of his goalscoring record also came as a surprise to the Arsenal fans in the Tavern, who were shocked to learn that he has bagged nearly 60 league goals for the Gunners.
Our landlord thinks that the Frenchman still has a lot to give to Arsenal…
