Arsenal: Fans bemoan update on club’s chase of Jerome Boateng

Arsenal fans were bemoaning the latest update on the club’s chase of Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng.

According to former professional footballer turned journalist, Jan Aage Fjortoft, the club are in for the player in what remains of the January transfer window. The north London giants were linked with a move for Boateng way back at the beginning of the month (via Sky Sports), however, Mikel Arteta went on to claim in a post-match press conference that he wasn’t expecting the club to do much business this winter (via talkSPORT).

One fan made his feelings on the Germany international’s current ability clear.

I don’t think this transfer would work out for @Arsenal in my opinion. Jerome Boateng is past his best and the gunners need a younger center back. For example somebody like @shaneduffy at @OfficialBHAFC would be a good edition. He would also cost less. #COYBIG #Brighton https://t.co/dyBkM02ZDh

After letting in a plethora of goals at the beginning of the season, the Spaniard seems to have steadied the side’s defence with the north London outfit having conceded just two goals this year (via WhoScored). And compared to David Luiz and Sokratis, Boateng averages more fouls per game than the duo, as per WhoScored.
