Arsenal fans launched a scathing attack of maligned centre-back Shkodran Mustafi following a less than impressive cameo appearance against Barcelona on Sunday evening.
The German came on with just three minutes to go in the game, which was won by Barcelona following a late goal by ex-Liverpool star Luis Suarez, who bagged a clinical late volley and the former’s performance was described as a ‘calamity’ by the Sun. Indeed, while his volley was a wonderful effort, the South American does appear to completely lose Mustafi in the build-up.
Arsenal took the lead through star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang mid-way through the first-half, however, a calamitous own goal from Ainsley Maitland-Niles saw the Catalan giants equalise after the youngster prodded the ball into his own net after a mix-up with ‘keeper Bernd Leno.
Despite that howler, Mustafi seemed to shoulder most of the blame for the conceding of the goal on Twitter, and some fans let their feelings of the Germany international be known.
Here is a selection of tweets from the North London faithful following Arsenal’s loss to Barcelona:
