Arsenal are keen on Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon. Boss Mikel Arteta is a long-time admirer of the forward, and the Arsenal hierarchy believe Gordon would be happy to move to London.
The Sun has reported that Arsenal are willing to shell out as much £75m for the player, and are now the front runners for his signature ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United. Liverpool was reportedly close to agreeing a deal for Gordon two years ago, but the move fell through.
The England international has had a stop start campaign with Newcastle this season but remains highly rated. He’s scored three goals and added two assists in 21 Premier League appearances so far.
His standout moment came in the Champions League, when he scored four goals in 33 minutes during the first half of Newcastle’s 6-1 thrashing of Qarabag in their playoff first leg win. He set a record for the fastest hat trick by an Englishman in the competition, and became just the second player in history to score four in one half.
Arsenal keen on Gordon

Newcastle are reportedly seeking close to £95 million to sign Gordon, but are likely to accept less if the deal progresses. Arsenal are expecting to target left wing as an area of improvement in the summer.
Arteta admires Gordon for his pace and directness from that flank, as well as his versatility. Gordon has deputized as a striker this season for Newcastle in the absence of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.
Gordon is understood to be content at Newcastle and not currently angling for a move away, but could be persuaded by Champions League football. The Magpies are currently nine points out of the Champions League positions and sit in 11th place in the table.
Gordon’s boss Eddie Howe has weighed in on these rumours, saying the player must remain fully focused on the club’s current objectives. Newcastle have drawn Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16, while also look to climb back into the Champions League positions in the Premier League table.
An Arsenal approach for Gordon could spell the end for either Gabrielle Martinelli or Leandro Trossard however. The former has been linked with a big money departure from Arsenal to help offset some of the heavy transfer outlay.
