The Sun have an interesting claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They report that Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has emerged as possible target for Arsenal as Arsene Wenger looks to find a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta in his side.
The Gunners coach has reportedly been watching the former France Under-21 international for the past few season as he makes waves at St. Mary’s, with the paper even suggesting that Wenger was close to making his interest official during the recent transfer window.
With Arteta soon to turn 32 and due to him having only 18 months on his existing deal at the Emirates Stadium, thoughts have already started turning to who could replace the Spaniard at the North London outfit.
It appears that the 24-year-old Saints talisman has been identified to sit in front of the Arsenal back four after some impressive performances for the south coast side.
The Gunners were priced out of any move in January after being told that he would cost at least £15 million, however reports suggest that Wenger could try again come the end of the season.
Can you see the Frenchman joining Wenger at the Emirates in the near future? Let us know your thoughts below.
