A regular visitor to the Football Transfer Tavern is Metro journalist Jamie Sanderson and he’s back once again, this time reporting that Arsenal are chasing French international centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
The Montpellier captain may be looking to move away from the struggling Ligue 1 side after they were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday and Sanderson explained that Arsenal are looking to revive their interest in the defender as a consequence.
The versatile defender can play anywhere across the back-four and he may be pushed further up Arsene Wenger’s wanted list after Bacary Sagna’s latest threat to leave the club after only being offered a 12-month extension to his current deal that expires in 2014.
However, Sanderson confirmed that Montpellier are desperate to keep the 23-year-old but their hand may be forced by his reluctance to commit to a new contract at the Stade de la Mosson.
Reports suggest that Chelsea and AC Milan have both shown interest in the defender but Arsene Wenger – a keen admirer, is eager to add quality to his defensive ranks in the near future with the defender available at a cut-down price in January.
