Arsenal reportedly keen on 3-time PL winner as Wenger attempts last ditch effort to improve his squad

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for their side to make some big changes before the transfer window slams shut…

The Gunners suffered an embarrassing 4-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool over the weekend, prompting fans to relinquish any thoughts of a potential Premier League title challenge this season.

That said, there’s still lots of time for Arsenal to turn it around, but it’s clear that they’re going to need some more personnel to make that happen.

Fortunately, then, the fans in the Transfer Tavern will be delighted to hear that, according to the Telegraph, Arsenal have enquired about the availability of Jonny Evans – with Wenger clearly keen to improve his defensive options.

Evans, though not a world renowned star, is a solid Premier League level defender that has won a plethora of trophies throughout his career. During a stint with Man Utd he won the Premier League an impressive three times, and so it’s important to note that he is not a shock target for the Gunners – but indeed he is quite a sensible option.

At 29-years-old, he’ll serve as a fantastic option for Wenger, with years of experience behind him – and he could be just what they need to steady the ship.

Landlord’s Verdict

This report hasn’t gone down too well in the pub, but fans need to recognise the significance of a deal for Evans. The Northern Irishman is one of the Premier League’s finest defenders, and he has grown as a player whilst at West Brom.

He won’t provide the trickery of David Luiz or the dynamism of Laurent Koscielny, but he’s a very consistent, dependable option -and this will appeal to Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners face a lot of competition for his signature, with Man City poised to make a move, but Arsenal certainly stand a chance.
