There are confused faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it has been claimed in the Daily Express that Arsenal are considering yet another goalkeeper after their £10 million bid for a top target was rejected.
The club had been thought to be keen on Rui Patricio who of course is currently playing for financially struggling side Sporting Lisbon. The club are keen to sell their top players in order to receive some much needed cash injected into the side yet feel that £10 million does not fully represent the player’s worth – £13 million is the least they will consider before selling yet another player. Of course the Primeira Liga giants have already sold Ricky van Wolfswinkel to Norwich City for next season.
Of course should their situation get more desperate, they may well have to consider negotiating, something that Wenger is hoping for. Should this not become the case, a move for £5 million rated Julio Cesar of QPR could well be the more likely option for the Gunners as despite having £70 million to spend as the summer draws closer, Wenger needs a host of players and is unwilling to spend big on a keeper when he could land one of equal quality for less money.
