Arsenal set for ‘proactive’ summer transfer window

emirates.jpgOpinion was split yesterday after Arsenal confirmed fourth place in the Premier League and celebrated like they had won a trophy. Some punters suggested that it was celebrating mediocrity but most Arsenal fans were delighted to have secured Champions League football again next season.

Talk has now turned to the summer transfer window with Metro reporting that Arsene Wenger has vowed that the club will have a ‘proactive’ recruitment policy this summer.

The Gunners beat fierce North London rivals Tottenham to fourth, a scenario that looked very unlikely with just 10 games to play, and Wenger admits that the club must build on the success of this season.

Wenger said: “We need stability and to strengthen. Is it spending a lot on one player or buying many players?

“We want additions but we want to keep the structure and spirit and quality of the team.

“Let’s not forget there are many clubs with big money and not enough talent to strengthen all the teams. But we will go out in a proactive way.”

Wenger is understood to be after Fiorentina’s striker Stevan Jovetic while Auxerre youngster Yaya Sanogo is expected to become the first signing of the transfer window when it reopens in a few weeks.
