The Arsenal fans sit in the Football Transfer Tavern with great confidence that Arsene Wenger will strengthen his defence in January, as he looks to activate a buy-out clause for a defender from La Liga.
According to the Mirror, Wenger is monitoring Malaga’s defender, Vitorino Antunes, who has a buy-out clause of only £2.5m, which could turn out to be an absolute bargain.
Whilst the Gunners have picked up their fair share of criticism for their defending already this season in the Tavern, maybe some additions in January could be the difference to a successful season.
Although the London club are crying out for a centre Back with Per Mertersacker and Laurent Koscielny being the only ones available in that position, as Calum Chambers won’t be an option whilst he is filling in at right back for the injured Mathieu Debuchy.
Antunes is a left back and would be good cover for Kieran Gibbs, but the club will have to make more defensive signings in this upcoming window if they want to fix their defensive problems.
Punters in the Tavern have also linked Arsenal to signing free agents, Joseph Yobo and Diego Lugano, to reinforce their defensive deficiencies.
