Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are really looking forward to seeing their side getting going against Liverpool later this afternoon.
The Gunners have had an okay at best start to the season with a win over Leicester and loss against Stoke so far and so now the plan has to be that the club gets something against the Reds.
Certainly, they’ll think they’ll be able to score goals against Liverpool’s defence but the Gunners need some tightening up, too, which is why we think it’s time that Thiago Motta is signed.
The veteran midfielder has been superb for a number of years for the likes of Inter Milan and PSG and that experience in keeping things locked up in the holding role is what Arsenal need.
Certainly, they need someone who is more defensively minded and disciplined than Granit Xhaka with top European experience and, though he is getting on in years, Motta seems to tick plenty of short term boxes.
He wouldn’t cost much at all, either, and so Arsene Wenger needs to seriously consider making a bid for the 34-year-old.
