With just 12 days remaining in the winter transfer window, here in the Football Transfer Tavern Arsenal punters are hoping that this is the week that they see the first serious activity from the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners are still leading the Premier League, ahead of Manchester City and their supporters know that this is a crucial period for Arsene Wenger as they look to secure their first piece of silverware in over eight years.
One prime transfer target for Arsenal was Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata, with Wenger looking to fetch the 21-year-old striker to North London for the rest of the season.
There had been suggestions that Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti would let him leave on short-term basis in order to aid his development.
Arsenal weren’t the only club looking at the Spanish Under-21 international with Tottenham and Liverpool also linked to the Madrid youngster.
However any hopes of a loan move to England have now been dashed by reports from The Express who confirm that Morata has declared that he has no interest in leaving the Bernabeu during the current transfer window.
“Despite all the stories that have emerged, I am happy here,” he said.
“I have spoken with the club and the coach and told them I want to stay here.
“This is the team I have spent my entire life at and I will stay here and do whatever the club asks of me or needs of me, even if it’s to play a minimal amount of games.”
This has left Gunners in the bar increasingly frustrated with Wenger needing to strengthen his attack with just Olivier Giroud to call on as centre forward.
