Unai Emery has been working hard on ‘nurturing a feeling of togetherness’ within his squad after he let the team go out for a meal following their 2-2 draw with Watford.
Arsenal let a two-goal lead slip thanks to defensive mistakes from the centre-half duo Sokratis and David Luiz. However, according to The Daily Mail, he allowed the players to go out for a meal at London’s Novikov.
Monday was a day off for the squad, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pictured leaving a London nightclub in the early hours of the morning.
Garnering a feeling of togetherness makes zero difference in Emery attempting to fix his very visible tactical failings at the club. Arsenal’s problems are down to both player and managerial mistakes, and you get the feeling attempting to create togetherness in the squad will only ensure the real problems get forgotten.
Arsenal’s squad is already full of togetherness as seen by the interaction on social media. Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are close friends and were involved in the announcement of Nicolas Pepe on Instagram, showing just how ‘close’ the trio were before the former Lille star even joined the club.
There are bigger problems in the form of defensive deficiencies that need to be sorted out rather than focusing on issues which aren’t a problem. Emery’s struggles to implement an error-free passing style of play out of defence (Sky Sports via @afcstuff on Twitter) was evident against Watford as the ball was given away time and time again. Eventually, the Gunners were punished when Sokratis Papastathopoulos gave the ball straight to Tom Cleverley, who stroked home for Watford’s first goal.
Trying to build team spirit and togetherness is a good thing, but Arsenal have much bigger problems to solve. Priorities need to be fixed if Arsenal are to progress on the field, which is where they are judged.
