Arsenal’s disappointing season has got even worse after Borussia Dortmund declared their teenage sensation; Mario Goetze is not for sale.
The 18 year old attacking midfielder has been in impressive form this season helping the German club to reclaim their first Bundesliga title in nearly a decade. The young midfielder has been touted as one of the stars of the future by the German press after contributing with 15 assists in the league this campaign.
The teenager was being line up by Arsene Wenger as a ready-made replacement for Samir Nasri who is still yet to sign a new contract with the North London club. With talks between Nasri’s agent and the club still on going, it looks as though Mr Wenger will have to look elsewhere for a creative force in the midfield if the Frenchman is to leave. Mario Goetze seemed to fit the bill as a quick, flair player who would suit Arsenal’s passing style of play but it seems Dortmund aren’t keen on parting ways with the youngster.
According to a report from Mirror Football, the managing Director of Borussia Dortmund, Joachim Watzke said: “We do not even think about selling Goetze before 2014 (year of expiry of the contract). Even if another club owned oil fields or had billions of euros, it wouldn’t make a difference.”
The new Bundesliga champions have just recently let Turkish sensation Nuri Sahin join Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee meaning they are unlikely to let Goetze leave without a fight. It would have to be a very enticing offer from the Gunners if Dortmund are to consider parting with their teenage sensation but with the Arsenal manager’s strict transfer policy it looks unlikely he would adhere to their valuation of the player.
It seems Arsene Wenger will have to look further afield for transfer targets this summer as he aims to rebuild a new squad after another trophy-less season.
