Although Villa already have a number of central midfielders, McCarthy would be considered a great addition to the squad and one the club should look to sign.
The 28-year-old is extremely experienced and a move to the Championship outfit could get him playing regular football once again.
However, with a number of clubs thought to be interested in him, it could be considered an ambitious move this January.
