Aston Villa: Leandro Trossard can help bring goals to the team after Tammy Abraham

Trossard

What an exciting summer ahead we have for newly promoted Aston Villa. Obviously, after a painful three-year exile, the Villains are to once again enjoy their football in England’s top division, where many people will surely think they belong.

Such is the nature of this excitement, captain and hero Jack Grealish has also pledged his future to the club in what must come as music to the ears for the fans, who have already seen the likes of Jota arrive while a club-record deal for Wesley Moraes awaits completion.

However – as we all know – the Premier League is a totally different beast and, as Fulham proved last season, anything can happen despite a big summer. Indeed, Villa finished just three points above Middlesbrough in seventh, so there is clearly a need for strengthening.

It’s therefore hugely important that Villa continue to spend this summer and spend well. To that end, it has recently emerged that they are interested in Brighton target (as per the Argus) Leandro Trossard in a move to bolster their attacking options. The aforementioned Moraes aside, that’s an area in desperate need of strengthening after top scorer Tammy Abraham’s season-long loan move came to an end.

Trossard primarily plays his football on the left wing but is a goal threat of the highest order. Captaining Genk to a Belgian title last season, scoring 22 goals and assisting 11 in 47 appearances (per Transfermarkt, where he is valued at £14.4m) in total, it’s clear to see he knows where the back of the net is. Outside of Abraham, not a single Villa player managed to hit double figures last season so, while a move to the Premier League might mean his numbers don’t translate straight away, there is a clear need for someone to come in and help on the attacking front.

As per WhoScored, he averaged 2.2 dribbles, 3 shots and 1.5 key passes a game during the games they analysed last season which, clearly, are pretty impressive numbers. Also fouled twice over the same average time, he’s looking like a useful option if he did join Villa.

With that in mind, the 24-year-old clearly has a lot of potential and would add a huge amount of attacking quality to the Villa frontline.

Villa fans, what would you think about this potential signing? Should Villa be looking for more proven Premier League talent? Or does Trossard represent a hidden gem that could provide you with a spark up top? Comment below.
