Barca, Liverpool & Spurs Going All Out For The £10M Argentinian Van der Vaart

Tottenham and Liverpool have entered into a race with Catalonian giants Barcelona, in a bid to sign Argentinian wonder-kid Erik Lamela. The youngster has been attracting alot of attention in his native land, with several bloggers commenting on his recent excellent performances for River Plate.

18 year old Lamela is considered one of South America’s hidden gems, and in a continent that’s practically bursting with talent you can be sure that’s not an exaggeration. River don’t want to sell him just yet, and have apparently slapped a £15 million figure on the player in an attempt to ward off potential buyers. £15 million is unlikely to cause Barcelona, Tottenham or Liverpool much problems, with the two Premiership clubs planning to spend big in the Summer transfer window.

Barcelona have a bit of history with Lamela. They once offered the player and his family £80,000 a week to come over to Spain and train with the Barca side…..when little Erik was just 12. I’ve heard of Child Labour but that’s just insane! If Barcelona were willing to pay that much for him then, think what he’ll be like now!

Lamela can play anywhere across the middle of the park, but is particuarly adept at playing on the wing or off the strikers. That alone should put Kenny Dalglish on the alert, as he looks to find a decent left-winger before the start of the next campaign. Lamela also offers Tottenham more attacking options, and would no doubt be attracted by some of the sparkling stuff they’ve been producing this season.

Nicknamed ‘Coco’ at River Plate, Lamela has been labelled ‘an impressive professional…a kid who has his head exactly where it should be’ according to coach Juan Jose Lopez. ‘JJ’ has not made any comments regarding Lamela’s future, so it remains to be seen where he’ll find himself next season. Lamela may very well be lining up alongside his countryman, Leonel Messi next season, if Pep Guardiola finally gets his man.

Lamela has made 18 appearances for River Plate this season, scoring 3 goals. River currently sit 9th in the Argentinian League.
