Newcastle United supporters have been pretty despondent in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side’s miserable run of form continue at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, what with the North East giants going down 3-1 to Premier League champions Chelsea.
Rafa Benitez’s men had halted a run of four successive league defeats by drawing 2-2 with West Brom in their previous league outing, and they clearly took some confidence from that into the early stages in West London as Dwight Gayle gave them a 12th minute lead. However, that was as good as it got for the travelling Magpies faithful, as a brace from Eden Hazard and a fine Alvaro Morata header sealed the victory for Antonio Conte’s men, who in turn secured their tenth win of the campaign, and at the same time instigated Newcastle’s fall to 15th in the Premier League table.
Consequently, there have been many disappointed and frustrated Magpies fans in the Tavern this week, many of whom are wondering exactly where it has all gone wrong for their side given the decent start to the season made by the North East outfit.
In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Newcastle fans to discuss, not least recent reports outlining how much manager Benitez is demanding for transfers in the winter window, namely £20 million.
The Spaniard was only able to bring six players to St James’ Park over the summer and was evidently frustrated with their inability to land top targets – he reportedly came close to resigning such was his irritation.
And reports suggest that the former Chelsea and Liverpool chief will demand £20 million to spend in January, news which has somewhat bewildered several Newcastle fans on Twitter…

to be honest 20 million wouldnt buy a decent defender these days never mind a striker, to fill those 3 positions with quality would probably knock us back 50 million at least
