Saturday’s North London derby will go down in history as one of the most memorable games after a stunning Tottenham comeback. After trailing 2-0 at half-time many believed an embarrassing defeat was on the cards but William Gallas inspired his team to a 3-2 victory to record their first away win against there bitter rivals since 1993.
The game of two-halves was full on key battles between certain players and I’ve chosen three which had a dramatic effect on how the game panned out.
Cesc Fabregas vs. Luka Modric
During the first half Cesc Fabregas was untouchable. He easily found himself in a lot of space and his range of passing was second-to-none.
Luka Modric and Jermaine Jenas could not get near him and his pinpoint pass set Samir Nasri up to make it 1-0. He was also involved in the swift counter attack which saw Marouane Chamakh steal in for their second goal.
However in the second-half roles reversed as Modric got hold of the game, he dropped deeper to pick the ball up and dictated the play. Fabregas, Denilson and co couldn’t handle him whilst he was in possession and he showed his class which has made him a huge favourite among the Spurs fans.
Both players were equally influential for their teams but the Spaniards ludicrous decision to raise his arm in the wall helped draw Tottenham level and sway the momentum of the whole game.
That’s why Luka Modric wins my vote.
