Manchester City’s season has gathered serious momentum in recent months.
Silverware is already secured after lifting the EFL Cup, while progression to the FA Cup semi-finals has kept hopes of a domestic double alive. In the Premier League, an unbeaten run stretching back to mid-January has reignited their challenge at the top, putting pressure on leaders Arsenal.
Despite that resurgence, attention is already beginning to turn toward the summer, where changes are expected.
One of the club’s most influential figures now appears set to move on — and interest from Europe’s elite is already building.
Barcelona Want to Sign Bernardo Silva
Bernardo Silva is expected to leave Manchester City at the end of the season, with Barcelona among the clubs keen to secure his signature.
The Portugal international, who has been a central figure during his nine-year spell at the Etihad, is set to depart when his contract expires this summer. During his time at the club, Silva has helped City win six Premier League titles and the Champions League, cementing his place as one of their modern greats.
According to Sky Sports, Barcelona and Juventus are both interested in signing the 31-year-old on a free transfer. Silva — who has contributed eight goals and assists this season — has long been admired by both clubs, although he is yet to make a final decision on his next destination.
Interest from Saudi Arabia and MLS is also believed to be present.
City assistant manager Pep Lijnders, speaking after the club’s 4-0 FA Cup win over Liverpool, acknowledged the situation and paid tribute to the midfielder.
“You never replace a player with the same kind of player, because they don’t exist. Bernardo Silva is unique,” he said.
Silva’s expected departure marks the end of an era at Manchester City, with the club set to lose one of its most technically gifted and intelligent players. While Barcelona are firmly in the race, competition for his signature is likely to be fierce — and wherever he ends up, replacing a player of his quality will be no easy task for City.
