There’s been a raucous cheer amongst the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern today, despite the fact the Toon are yet to bring anyone in this month…
That’s because bitter rivals Sunderland have completed perhaps the most laughable signing of the window thus far as they drafted in Joleon Lescott to join their seemingly annual relegation fight.
Having struggled so much at Aston Villa last term, it’s got so bad at the Stadium of Light that David Moyes has had to turn to the 34-year-old, who had most recently been playing out in Greece.
With the Magpies looking almost certain to return to the top tier of English football, this news has had them all but dancing on the pool tables, as many of them believe a signing of this ilk will condemn their arch rivals to the same sort of fate they had in May.
So, with that in mind, here’s how Twitter reacted to Lescott joining Sunderland.
#Safc are delighted to have added another useful addition which they hope can assist O'Shea,Lescott & Pienaar etc pic.twitter.com/jekClEzw74

It’s nice of David Moyes to already start planning for life in the Championship by signing Joleon Lescott. #FightForPromotion2018

I knew it was bad at Sunderland but not bad enough to think Lescott was a sensible option.
