Bournemouth will be playing European football for the first time in the club’s history next season after securing an impressive sixth-place Premier League finish and qualification for the UEFA Europa League.
The Cherries will embark on that adventure under new management, however, following Andoni Iraola’s departure to Liverpool and the arrival of Marco Rose. With a new era underway, Bournemouth are expected to strengthen across several positions, and one experienced international has emerged as a potential target.
Bournemouth Interested in Richard Rios
According to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, per Sports Witness, Bournemouth have entered the race to sign Benfica midfielder Richard Rios this summer.
The Colombia international, who was previously described as “versatile” by his former Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira, has attracted interest from a number of clubs across Europe, including Napoli and AC Milan. Bournemouth are now said to be among the latest sides monitoring his situation.
While Rios is not actively pushing to leave Benfica, his long-term future is far from certain. Reports suggest the Portuguese club would consider offers in the region of €30m-€45m (£26m-£39m) should serious interest materialise.
The 25-year-old’s athleticism, technical quality and ability to operate in multiple midfield roles make him an attractive option for Bournemouth, who are keen to add depth and experience before their first European campaign.
