Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern finally had something to cheer on Wednesday after their side got back to winning ways in the Carabao Cup.
Ronald Koeman’s men were stuck in a rut after four successive defeats in all competitions, with Premier League losses at the hands of Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester United leaving the Toffees inside the bottom three.
Add in a woeful 3-0 defeat at Atalanta in their opening Europa League clash last week, and things haven’t been going at all well for the Merseyside outfit, although our resident Toffees were indeed a happy bunch on Wednesday as their side eased past Sunderland 3-0 at Goodison Park.
A brace from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and a late strike from Oumar Niasse secured the Toffees’ path into the fourth round, which will take them back to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea next month.
Nonetheless, it was a much-needed victory for Everton, and indeed manager Koeman, who has since taken to Twitter to convey his delight at his side’s result and performance on Wednesday night.
